Pakistan after Bhutto – hipocrisy goes on
December 31, 2007
The offical period of grievance is over. Leaders from all over the world praised the dids of Benzamir, fighter for democracy, and condemned her hateful assassins.
Now, it is time to fight for power.
Deep in the grave, Benzamir still found the strength to give the race’s starting shot.
In the political testament she nominated her 19 year old son, Bilawal, to lead the Party of the People of Pakistan and be the next in line of the Bhutto’s dynasty.
The experienced son, in his Christmas holidays, in Dubai, faraway from the political turmoil and the people fighting in the streets of Karachi, promised to fight for democracy.
“The party’s long struggle for democracy will continue with renewed vigor. My mother always said, democracy is the best revenge.”
But not right now. First, Bilawal has to come back for Oxford to finish his studies.
Meanwhile, he democratically nominated his father, Asif Zardari, to lead the party and run for elections.
“When I am at university my father will take care of the party,” said Bilawal at his maiden press conference at the family estate in Naudero.
Asif Zardari, better known as Mr 10%, was condemned and arrested for stealing the country’s finances while being minister of investment in Bhutto’s second government.
But who remebers that when Zardari himself has forgotten who sent him in prison?
Nawaz Sharif, prime minister after Bhutto, ordered Zardari to be tortured almost to death.
Now he is Zardari’s best friend against the ditactor Musharaf.
They both accuse the general of Bhutto’s death and now they both call for elections to go on.
Sharif didn’t at first. He stated for elections to be delayed three days ago. But now he changed his mind.
Today he reacted angrily to the news that Musharaf had been advised by the electoral commission to delay elections on the grounds there are no conditions of security.
As the political show goes on, people fight in the streets.
